Who should I vote for in Election 2004?
"We all know politicians only go
Just half-way there
Just half-way there
The innocence of youth needs protection not abuse
But no one seems to care
Yet no one seems to care
And you sit there and watch the world go around
From your pseudo-benevolent vantage point
While we who've been left to pick up after you
Try our best to make some sense for those who
Come next...." ~ 'Sowing The Seeds Of Utopia' - Bad Religion
For the moment, I am officially Undecided.
I suppose I should elaborate just for the hell of it. I voted for Dubya in the 2000 Election for the sole reason of keeping Al Gore out of the Oval Office. This time around, I'm not certain that Bush needs to have my vote again, because I'm almost 100% certain that he will win 2004 by a very large margin.
In contrast, if I were to vote for a Democrat, it would have to be someone who had a snowball's chance in hell of winning. But since the only frontrunner of the Democratic Party is Howard Dean, I honestly don't think that a Democratic president in 2004 is even remotely possible at this point. The Democrats are too busy fighting amongst themselves to be taken seriously at anything besides a few blown-out-of-proportion, who-gives-a-shit subjects like equal rights for gay marriages and the Patriot Act. Back in 1992, Clinton sidestepped all that bullshit and went straight for the jugular that won him the election: the economy.
This time around, the Dems can't even do that because the economy is visibly improving. Which sucks for them because that's really the only true Oval Office winning issue that they had left. They can't bash the Patriot Act without solid proof that the Act is violating the civil liberties of every single American in this country, instead of only a select few of Arab ethnicity that were suspect during the post-9/11 days. In truth, the Patriot Act (so far) has seemed to have prevented a repeat of 9/11 on a dramatic scale. And while another 9/11 is probably inevitable, the Patriot Act in all of its flaws and faults regarding civil liberties of Americans, appears to be doing exactly what it was created to do: provide homeland security on a grand scale, at the expense of a very select few people that you and me couldn't give less of a shit about.
I'd consider going for the Libertarian vote, but I also don't believe in squandering a vote simply in order to make either myself or the person who I'm voting for feel good about themselves. Because mark my words, there will never be a Libertarian president for as long as we all shall live.
The only other alternative that I've given myself is in not voting, and I can't allow that to happen, because if I didn't vote in 2004 then I would have no right to bitch and moan about the President in office after next year. So until further notice, I shall remain anxiously Undecided.
Eeeny meeny miney mo....catch a politician by the toe.....if he hollers, shoot him.
