9/11 Victims Relatives Are Pissed At Bush Campaign Ads
"The White House defended the commercials, which show images of the skeletal remains of the World Trade Center and firefighters bearing a stretcher through the rubble.
"It makes me sick," said Colleen Kelly, who lost her brother Bill Kelly Jr., in the attacks and leads a victims families group called Peaceful Tomorrows. "Would you ever go to someone's grave site and use that as an instrument of politics? That truly is what Ground Zero represents to me."
Some 9/11 Relatives Angered by Bush Ads
Sorry babe, but 9/11 is a day that belonged to every American, not just the ones who died. 9/11 happened on Bush's watch as well, so he has every right to use it as a part of his political campaign for re-election, since he's the President that had to deal with it.
And I had to laugh a little at the hypocrisy of Colleen Kelly's statement above regarding Bush using Ground Zero "as an instrument of politics".
She leads a group called Peaceful Tomorrows. Judging by some of the actions that this group has taken since 9/11 established them, they seem to be awfully politically motivated themselves. So wouldn't that constitute Peaceful Tomorrows as using 9/11 and Ground Zero "as an instrument of politics"? That's a tad hypocritical, if you ask me.
You know, I'm going to try something that I've never really done before. I'm going to e-mail these guys a letter relaying pretty much what I just said above. If I get a response from them - any response - I'll post it here.
Is it ethical to post an e-mail that somebody sent to me? Oh, I dunno, is it ethical to use 9/11 "as an instrument of politics"? Tell you what, I'll let her know beforehand that any response that she says to me will be posted on my webpage. Heck, I'll even give them the URL just to show them that I mean well and have nothing to hide from them.
I doubt they'll respond, especially when they enter the URL to this blog into their web browser and read some of it, but what the hell? This kind of exposure beats running naked down the street screaming my head off. I guess if I can't ever get any attention this way, I can always do that.
Politics is like watching a NASCAR race; something inevitably will always go wrong, but nothing ever goes right.
