The Debates Are Over, And The Liberal Heads Are Spinning!

"Despite that he saw blatant similarity
He struggled to find a distinctive moiety
All he found was vulgar superficiality
But he focused it to sharpness
And shared it with the others
It signified his anger and misery
Them and us
Lobbying determined through a mire of disbelievers
Them and us
Dire perpetuation and incongruous insistence
That there really is a difference
Between them and us..."
~ 'Them And Us' - Bad Religion

During tonight's debate, Bush said at one point that he never said that he wasn't worried about Bin Laden.

TRANSCRIPT:

SCHIEFFER: Anything to add, Senator Kerry?

KERRY: Yes. When the president had an opportunity to capture or kill Osama bin Laden, he took his focus off of them, outsourced the job to Afghan warlords, and Osama bin Laden escaped.

Six months after he said Osama bin Laden must be caught dead or alive, this president was asked, "Where is Osama bin Laden?" He said, "I don't know. I don't really think about him very much. I'm not that concerned."

We need a president who stays deadly focused on the real war on terror.

SCHIEFFER: Mr. President?

BUSH: Gosh, I just don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin Laden. It's kind of one of those exaggerations.

Of course we're worried about Osama bin Laden. We're on the hunt after Osama bin Laden. We're using every asset at our disposal to get Osama bin Laden.

My opponent said this war is a matter of intelligence and law enforcement. No, this war is a matter of using every asset at our disposal to keep the American people protected.

Transcript: Third Debate

Alan Colmes produced a sound bite from a March 13, 2002 press conference where Bush said on television: "As I say, we hadn't heard much from him. And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, you know, again, I don't know where he is.

I'll repeat what I said: I truly am not that concerned about him."

TRANSCRIPT OF ENTIRE QUESTION FROM 3/13/02 PRESS CONFERENCE:

QUESTION: Do you believe the threat that bin Laden posed won't truly be eliminated until he is found either dead of alive?

BUSH: As I say, we hadn't heard much from him. And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, you know, again, I don't know where he is.

I'll repeat what I said: I truly am not that concerned about him. I know he is on the run. I was concerned about him when he had taken over a country. I was concerned about the fact that he was basically running Afghanistan and calling the shots for the Taliban.

But, you know, once we set out the policy and started executing the plan, he became -- we shoved him out more and more on the margins.

He has no place to train his al Qaeda killers anymore. And if we find a training camp, we'll take care of it -- either we will or our friends will. That's one of the things that's part of the new phase that's becoming apparent to the American people is that we're working closely with other governments to deny sanctuary or training or a place to hide or a place to raise money. And we got more work to do.

See, that's the thing the American people have got to understand -- that we've only been at this six months. This is going to be a long struggle. I keep saying that. I don't know whether you all believe me or not. But time will show you that it's going to take a long time to achieve this objective.

And I can assure you I am not going to blink, and I'm not going to get tired, because I know what is at stake. And history has called us to action and I am going to seize this moment for the good of the world, for peace in the world and for freedom.

Transcript of Bush press conference

Colmes is milking this one for all that it's worth right now, which isn't much to begin with. What Colmes is either being extremely naive about or deliberately ignoring to drive his liberal point home, is that Kerry basically said that Bush took his eye off the ball when that statement was made, when in fact Bush was laying the foundation as well as his administration's plan of action for what could amount to a very long campaign in Afghanistan to capture Bin Laden.

I agree with Bush's statement that Kerry exaggerated that point greatly, since it was obvious that at the March 2002 press conference, Bush was referring to Bin Laden's lack of power and influence over the country of Afghanistan as a whole as something that one shouldn't be that concerned about anymore.

Bin Laden is no longer in control in Afghanistan. They just had their first election as a democracy this past weekend; the country's first democratic election since the Soviet Union ended Afghanistan's last democratic government by invading the country in 1978. Is Saddam Hussein still a concern now that he is no longer in control of Iraq? Of course not.

It's obvious that the Bush Administration is not concerned about Bin Laden as a major threat to the world, but they are concerned with bringing him to justice. That's why we still have troops deployed over there.

Nice try, Kerry. Put a sock in it, Colmes.

Congratulations on your victory at this year's presidential debates, Mr. President.
